McMaster Institute for Music & The Mind: The LIVELab

Dr. Laurel J. Trainor, founding director

The McMaster Institute for Music and The Mind (MIMM) is engaged in groundbreaking,
neuroscientific research aimed at understanding the positive role music training, movement, and performance play in intellectual, social and emotional development, with particular emphasis on infants and young children, although not limited to this age.

The McMaster Institute for Music and The Mind is home to a unique research-based performance theatre and testing centre. The LIVE (Large Interactive Virtual
Environment) Auditory Lab is unique among these kinds of facilities in the world.
The public opening will be September 27th 2014. Already there is significant interest from scientists, students, and business.

An important goal of the Institute and the LIVELab is to transfer research findings to the wider community, including informing public policy and improving programs in the areas of education, community and social services, and health. MIMM partners, such as the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra, early childhood educators, professional musicians, and special foundations will be part of the storytelling of the work and its findings.
